We live in a tumultuous time for content and copyright. The established business models of television, movies, music, academic publishing, and educational materials are all changing. Some have already changed and upended how we buy, use, re-use, and share. Direct access and the decline of gatekeepers continues to be the theme of the expanding Internet, empowering creators and audiences.
But the utopia hasn’t arrived by any measure, and creators still lose much of the value of their works to intermediaries. Is it too late for something better?
