Submission in response to Productivity Commission Harnessing data and digital technology

The Australian Libraries and Archives Copyright Coalition supports the Productivity Commission’s desire to establish more flexible pathways for access to data and digital content, especially as it relates to enabling Australian research and ensuring an Australian perspective in emerging technologies.

Our submission in response to the Productivity Commission’s draft recommendations in the Interim Report into Harnessing data and digital technology supports unlocking legal, ethical and thoughtful access to our collections to the benefit of the Australian people. We note concerns about the impact of AI technology on libraries and archives including the cost of providing access to our collections, the harms that can arise from unregulated use of AI, and the ethical concerns raised by content creators.
